Bluetooth Skipping on OS X Sierra

I recently upgraded my Mid-2015 15-inch Retina MacBook Pro to OS X Sierra 10.12.14. Unfortunately, literally all of my bluetooth audio devices began skipping and stuttering. This included my Sony wireless headphones, my Mpow wireless headphones, and my Amazon Echo Dot.

Fortunately, there was a pretty quick fix. As noted in option 4 on this page, all I had to do was:

  1. Shift+Alt-Click the bluetooth icon in the menu (if it’s not showing, run through Settings>Bluetooth and check the box to enable the icon in the menu)
  2. Under Debug click on Remove All Devices, and confirm the warning prompt
  3. From the same menu, click on Debug>Reset The Bluetooth Module and confirm the prompt again.

Since completing these steps, I’ve had no issues with any of my bluetooth audio. I didn’t have to reset my SMC or mess with any OS files.
